# Dutch subsidy for emission-free site equipment closes on Friday

The 2026 application window for the Dutch subsidy scheme for clean and emission-free construction equipment (SSEB) closes this Friday, 30 October. If your company plans to buy or convert emission-free equipment, including mobile battery packs, the decision on whether to apply has to be made now.

The scheme is run by RVO and aims to cut nitrogen, CO2 and particulate emissions from construction. According to [RVO](https://www.rvo.nl/subsidies-financiering/sseb/aanschaf?ref=news.renset.nl), applications for purchase run from 3 March to 30 October 2026, and the purchase budget is oversubscribed. Applying is still possible, because some applications are rejected during assessment and that can free up budget.

## What the scheme covers and what has changed

For 2026, [Bouwend Nederland reported](https://www.bouwendnederland.nl/nieuws/algemeen/sseb-opent-op-3-maart-meer-subsidie-beschikbaar?ref=news.renset.nl) a larger total budget of €50 million and a decoupling from the MIA tax scheme. Companies now have to choose either SSEB or MIA. The percentages were raised to [30% for SMEs and 25% for larger companies](https://www.bouwendnederland.nl/nieuws/algemeen/subsidies-2026-kansen-om-materieel-en-wagenpark-te-verduurzamen?ref=news.renset.nl), with a maximum of €300,000 per machine below 300 kW.

Demand has been strong. By the end of March, [315 applications for 585 machines](https://www.bouwendnederland.nl/nieuws/algemeen/kosten-emissieloos-bouwen-centraal-in-webinarreeks-seb-en-sseb-subsidie-nog-beschikbaar?ref=news.renset.nl) had been submitted, mostly for tracked excavators, battery packs and charging infrastructure. RVO also notes that [battery packs are useful in regions with grid congestion](https://www.rvo.nl/nieuws/steeds-meer-uitstootvrij-materieel-op-de-bouwplaats-dankzij-subsidie?ref=news.renset.nl) or on locations without a power connection, such as Natura 2000 areas.

## What happens after 30 October

The regulation text on [wetten.overheid.nl](https://wetten.overheid.nl/BWBR0046464?ref=news.renset.nl) states that it lapses on 1 January 2027\. We have not found an official announcement of a successor scheme. One subsidy adviser says a [2027 round is possible](https://www.subsidiebureau-nederland.nl/sseb-budget-2026-overtekend-kansen-voor-emissieloos-bouwmaterieel/?ref=news.renset.nl) but that its terms may differ, so treat that as unconfirmed.

On the client side, the [Rijksvastgoedbedrijf now requires at least 30% emission-free equipment use](https://www.wattisduurzaam.nl/50218/energie-besparen/transport/rijksvastgoedbedrijf-eist-emissieloos-bouwmaterieel-op-elk-project/?ref=news.renset.nl) on all its construction and renovation projects, including those below the European tender threshold. For municipalities, provinces and water boards, the [SPUK SEB scheme](https://www.rvo.nl/subsidies-financiering/spuk-seb?ref=news.renset.nl) for tenders closed on 11 September. Authorities that have not signed the SEB covenant can only apply from 2027, after signing.

## What this means on site

For companies that planned to buy or convert emission-free equipment this year, 30 October marks the end of the 2026 purchase round. Because the budget is already oversubscribed, an application submitted now only succeeds if other applications are rejected. It is far less certain than one made earlier in the year.

The applications so far show that equipment and power supply are being considered together. Battery packs and charging infrastructure are among the most requested items, alongside tracked excavators. Where a grid connection is slow or unavailable, as RVO notes for congested regions and Natura 2000 areas, battery-based power can decide whether electric equipment can be used on a site at all.

Public clients are pushing in the same direction. With the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf requiring at least 30% emission-free equipment use on all its projects, the share of emission-free equipment is becoming part of how work is won, not only how it is carried out.

For 2027 the picture is less clear. The current regulation lapses on 1 January 2027 and no successor scheme has been announced officially, so equipment investments planned for next year cannot yet count on comparable support.

## Renset in this context
